This phraseology came to Pastor Scott as he was preparing to move the ministry to Laguna Niguel, Ca. The phrase is not meant to criticize religion but rather looking at religion from a man generated point of view. The apostle James, said this religion doesn't profit. It has an outward form that is not reflective of the true self of a person and denies God's very power. This kind of religion leads to self-righteousness, hypocrisy and a judgmental attitude which is not reflective of true Christianity. Referring to religion, Isaiah the prophet, speaking for The Lord, said "...I'm sick of your religion, religion, religion I can't stand it anymore." God was referring to the rituals, ceremonies, and rules that the people were practicing but all the time maintaining a hypocritical persona that simply was not genuine. It was all for show. People can appear to be 'religious' or Christian but their words and outward actions many times don't reflect the inner person.
In contrast Jesus said, "I came that they may have life and that they may have it to the fullest extent." He didn't come to bring the law, or a religious code but He came to bring spiritual life. This life frees people from the bondage of the law that entangles and hinders a person from experiencing a close intimate walk with God. Lighthouse is a place where people can come and experience a true and pure relationship with Jesus without trying to be someone they're not and instead becoming someone of beauty the Lord creates from the inside out.
