“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” -- Matthew 11:28-30 MSG
Our family recently came across this passage in Matthew that fits right in with our slogan 'no religion, just life.' Did you know there are multiple translations of the Bible? As a student of the Word, it's important to continue to study and read your Bible every day (2 Timothy 2:15).
When you are diligently studying, the Holy Spirit will bring about new revelation and understanding-- even on verses or stories you have read several times before! At Lighthouse, we teach mainly from the New King James Version (NKJV) of the Bible because it's probably the closest to the literal translation of the orginial text. But we also compare the NKJV to other versions, such as The Message (MSG), Amplified (AMP) and New Living Translation (NLT).
Our twofold mission in our walk with God is to 1) know Jesus and 2) to make Jesus known. How can you tell others about Jesus unless you know Him personally? Take some time this week to read a familiar or new chapter in a different translation than usual and see what new things you learn and better understand!
